ECRI Codes

An ECRI (Emergency Care Research Institute) Code is a universal code used to categorize medical devices. Assigning ECRI codes to assets facilitates consistent identification of medical equipment across hospitals and other medical facilities.

The ECRI Codes administration page is only available if Healthcare Functionality is enabled.

The Admin – ECRI Code page allows you to enter the ECRI codes that will be used throughout your system. These values populate the dialog box that opens when the ECRI Code Select link is clicked on the Asset module's Create Asset page. These values are also used as the lookup values for the ECRI Code search criteria on the Find Asset page.

To open the ECRI Codes page:

  1. Open the Administration Menu page.

  2. Under the ASSET ADMIN heading, click ECRI Codes.

All of the existing ECRI codes appear.

  3. To sort the displayed codes, click the column heading you want to sort by.

  4. To display a subset of the existing codes, enter a value in the Filter field, and click FIND.

You can filter the page by entering a portion of the ECRI code or code description.

From this page, you can add a new ECRI code, edit an existing ECRI code, or delete an existing ECRI code.

ClosedAdd an ECRI Code

Creating an ECRI code allows you to define the system-wide codes that are used to categorize medical devices. To add an ECRI code:

  1. Click the Add New link.

The Add ECRI Code dialog box opens, allowing you to define the new code.

  2. In the ECRI Code field, enter the numeric value of the code.

  3. In the Description field, enter a description of the code.

This field should be used to enter the type of equipment the code corresponds to, for example, Microscopes or Cardiointegraphs. ECRI codes are displayed to the user as a concatenation of both the numeric value and the description.

  4. In the Tab Order field, enter a numeric value.

The Tab Order indicates the position, in menus, where this value will be listed. Lower numbered values are displayed toward the top of the list. Values will the same tab order will be sorted alphabetically.

  5. In the Active field, select Yes to make this ECRI code active.

Inactive values remain in the system, but are not displayed to users.

  6. Click Create.

The ECRI code is added to the list. The name of the user who added the code and the date and time it was added are displayed.
